{"id":479,"date":"2011-03-22T10:43:28","date_gmt":"2011-03-22T10:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/?p=479"},"modified":"2011-03-22T10:43:28","modified_gmt":"2011-03-22T10:43:28","slug":"rgb-kittys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mynoellights.com\/blog\/?p=479","title":{"rendered":"RGB Kittys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in 2007 I stumbled across a house decoration that had fading RGB lanterns high lighting a path to the front porch.\u00a0\u00a0 John Chapman of Engineering Solutions Inc Developed a suite id LED Based RGB Pixel projects\/products.\u00a0 the one that particularly inspired me was <a href=\"http:\/\/response-box.com\/rgb\/2008\/12\/point-source-pixel-first-run\/\">Point Sources.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not knowing anything at all about PIC, it was then I decided to make an AVR equivalent unit wit ha couple of variations.\u00a0 These shots are the finished products. <a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/kitty-large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-480\" title=\"RGB Kitty - Front\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/kitty-large-300x91.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"91\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/kitty-rear-large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-481\" title=\"RGB Kitty rear\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/kitty-rear-large-300x96.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a>There are a couple of options for the LEDs, a single 4 pin Common Anode RGB LED or 3 separate LEDs.\u00a0 the whole unit runs of 5Volts.\u00a0 the LED current are limited to about 20mA each, as per the AVR AtTiny2313 specification.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/RGB-Kitty-Schem.pdf\">RGB Kitty Schematic<\/a> is available for reuse.<\/p>\n<p>By shorting X3, the controller goes into Address mode and sets the DMX Start Address to the DMX Values of (Ch1 + Ch2).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_491\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_4526.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-491\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-491\" title=\"Panel of 10 Kittys - Front\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_4526-300x229.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-491\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Panel of 10 Kittys - Front<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_492\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_4527.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-492\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-492\" title=\"Panel of 10 Kittys - Rear\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_4527-300x231.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-492\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Panel of 10 Kittys - Rear<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Why Kitty?\u00a0 When designing these I always wanted them to be more than pixel sources, as Pixel conjures up images of small point sources of light.\u00a0 I wanted Ping-Pong ball sources of diffused light.\u00a0 As I was nearing competition of the circuit design, my cat&#8217;s eyes caught my attention.\u00a0 ( I know I am hopeless cat person) Thus Kitty Eyes became the project name.\u00a0 that eventually was shortened to RGB Kittys<\/p>\n<h2>For Sale.<\/h2>\n<p>I have about 100 (10x panels) Version 1 boards left from the first run.\u00a0 These are available for sale.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Version 2<\/h2>\n<p>Version 2 in planning phase.<\/p>\n<p>I intend to make the following changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Add a 78l05 voltage regulator ( probably a SOT-223 case as they appear to be the best priced units currently<\/li>\n<li>Replace X3 wit ha SMD switch, AND add a track to pin5 of X1 &amp;X2.<\/li>\n<li>Change X1&amp;X2 spacing to 0.1&#8242;
