Manually editing your Vixen 2.5 Profile<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">by Matthew Edwards \u2013 27\/10\/2011<\/p>\n<p>As I added 3 universes this year I needed a way to create new profile outside of Vixen.\u00a0 This How To details how I created the profile and then edited it using information I had in excel spread sheets about the channels and my display layout.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tools needed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vixen 2.5<\/li>\n<li>Excel 2003 to 2010\u00a0 (I didn\u2019t succeed in using Open Office for this task)<\/li>\n<li>NotePad++ ( a free down load)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Step 1<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 create the profile in Vixen with het correct number of channels and the Output Plugins<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_612\" style=\"width: 395px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile6.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-612\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-612 \" title=\"Profile6\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"313\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-612\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vixen Profile<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Step 2<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Open the profile with Notepad++.\u00a0 Change the language to XML<\/p>\n<p>You will notice the channel data is defined between &lt;ChannelObjects&gt; and &lt;\/ChannelObjects&gt;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_607\" style=\"width: 579px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-607\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-607 \" title=\"Profile1\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-607\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vixen Profile XML<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Select ALL of the lines between &lt;ChannelObjects&gt; and &lt;\/ChannelObjects&gt; and copy to the clipboard ( Ctrl C)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Step 3<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; Open Excel and paste the lines in to column A<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_608\" style=\"width: 477px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile2.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-608\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-608 \" title=\"Profile2\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"467\" height=\"119\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-608\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Channel Objects imported into Excel<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Now it is time to break all the channel data into manageable chunks.<\/p>\n<p>Select the Text to Columns button.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_609\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile3.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-609\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-609 \" title=\"Profile3\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-609\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Converting Channel Objects to editable data<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Step 4<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Edit the Channel names and colours to suit your display.<\/p>\n<p>I have all my channel data in OO spread sheets, so it is a simple matter of copying &amp; paste from one to the other.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_610\" style=\"width: 783px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile4.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-610\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-610 \" title=\"Profile4\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"773\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-610\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Edit the profile to suit your display<\/p><\/div>\n<p>You could delete column A, but I found it useful to refer back to.\u00a0 At the very least you can hide the column if the page looks too busy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Step 5<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Recreate the Channel Data objects<\/p>\n<p>Basically we need to add in all the \u2018 \u201d \u2019 marks we removed to create the columns and concatenate the columns into a single ASCII string.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_611\" style=\"width: 742px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile5.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-611\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-611 \" title=\"Profile5\" src=\"http:\/\/baulkolites.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Profile5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"732\" height=\"73\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-611\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Re-constructing the Channel Objects<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Step 6<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Copy and paste the final string back into the profile to overwrite the existing data.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How To &#8211;
